hello, old friend. 6:38 AM

this innocence is brilliant,
please don't go away;
----

Sweet, sweet sixteenth.

... I woke up on the 26th of January, and the first thing I thought was, "omigosh it's party day!".
Met Maxy at Holland V, and the both of us walked around to get me a flower for my hair and a pashmina (but they didn't have the turquoise I wanted). We talked about boys (okay, so she talked about boys and I listened), beach waves, and explored the little salons on the third floor; and then walked out to meet RJ and Qiu at the busstop.

RJ gets abs from sitting down.
... Golly, seeing as how long our classroom timetables are-- the whole of NJ must be puhretty damn ripped, then.

We (the party comm!) went over to Visioncrest to set up-- and we all loved the Visioncrest lounge. Specially the couch. Gotta love the couch.
The next few hours were spent with Disney songs twirling out the speakers and the airconditioning at fullblast; and all the while we prepared golden, blue, purple and pink balloons and made our very own Mickey Mouse twister mats.
I accidentally sprayed orange hairspray 5cm away from RJ's hair instead of the advised 18cm, and almost blew her head off. :/ Sorry, hun.
Ting and Kat arrived after a while-- and consequently after the rest of the party prep-- we spent the rest of the time dancing around to Hakuna Matata and making up our own impromptu dance for Party Like A Rockstar. (which soon became our signature dance song, we're rad yao.)

3.30 rolls around and we're not dressed yet! --last minute flurry of costumes and the insistent zipping noises of makeup pouches. okay be calm; most people'll be arriving late. Give us a few minutes and we'll look human.

"you're hot,"
"oh gee thanks, so're you,"

... Sherman arrived first; zipped off to the gents-- and reappeared a few minutes later as Willy Wonka. (complete with portable candy factory!)
Willy Wonka- meet the Little Mermaid. Dahyum you two look good. ;D

Zorro/Kai arrived a while later with a box of Godiva (thankyou, thankyou, I love truffles!); and consequently we swanned around for awhile with our pink cameras and Willy Wonka's walking stick and Zorro's hat and sword.

PARTY STARTS! ... the guests got to teh elusive party venue (finally)-- and for the first hour or so, the lounge made for a teenage red-carpet as HSM stars, the Powerpuff Girls, Indiana Jones, Captain Jack Sparrow, and two waiters, and the King and Queen of Hearts, and Emily the Strange, and L from Death Note, and Mr and Mrs Smith (to name a few) filed in.

We warmed up by decking Leonard, Bryan and Lawrence (unfortunate souls) in club med skirts, Tinkerbell fairy hats, tiaras and shawls and making them catwalk up and down. Leonard might have a future with Ralph Lauren-- he does a mean catwalk. ;D

The party hosts were awesome. (: I love Deedee and Dexter, thank you, babes.

Captain Jack Sparrow forgot to bring his USB cable, so we heard Party Like A Rockstar for about a gazillion times over.
... Also, the Cap'n does a pretty neat accent. Was overheard (many times) asking where the rum's gone.

Birthday caaaake. Thankyou Ash and Ben for lighting my candles over and over again when the wind blew them out. (which was very often) Y'two WOULD make good waiters. :D
and by the way-- you two make verreeee awesome personal slaves-for-the-day. How much d'you charge per hour?

... There was just something very special about seeing "happy sweet sixteenth, Cara" written in pink icing on that chocolate canvas; and having the best crowd ever up shoulder-to-shoulder with you and clapping and laughing and singing you a birthday song.

Aaaand right after that, someone clamoured for a birthday kiss; and everyone took up the cry until the whole pooldeck was ringing with, "BIRTHDAY KISS! BIRTHDAY KISS!"

... so there was.
But it was entirely innocent, and quite, quite sweet,
thank you, lovely.

...HUMUHUMU! Omigosh funness. Shuyi, Gwen, RJ and Qiu (did I miss out anyone?) took me aside to the pool deck, and serenaded me with a Cara-fied version of Humuhumunukunukuapua'a. Aaaand then as a grand finale, I got smooshed with the innocent-looking piece of cake placed so discreetly on the deck table. (... I trusted you all!)
Ran faaaaar far away (course I outran them) but unfortunately also ran headlong into Sherman's chest.
Dang.

"...she's here, come get her!"

Oh gee, thankyouuu, Sherman.

Attempted to wriggle away by smooshing cake into his face.
Baaad move. He only held onto me even more tightly, and aimed the cake in his hand-- at me.
Voila- cake facial!

Pooltime was awesome.
I went to go change into my swimstuff; and then when I was still in the washroom, I heard all sorts of strange guy-sounding rustling noises outside.

"...rhubarbrhubarbCARA...rhubarbrhubarbgetready,"

Cara: O_O *squeak* *runs and hides*

...Buuuut 'course I couldn't hide in the steam room forever; so eventually I did have to go out.
And then I saw the whoooole lot of guys standing there in their boardshorts, advancing on me (no escape!) and grinning at me in a way I did not like at all.

"...time to dunk the birthday girl!"

I'd like to say that I put up a good fight-- but basically they carried me to the edge of the pool, where I floundered around desperately for a bit and was dropped on the floor. And then I was all, "phew, okay, I'm on the floor. Savedddd."

...not.

Cos the next thing I knew-- Sherman had scooped me up and tossed me into the pool, with all the guys laughing after me-- and when I next opened my eyes, I saw Sherman splashing around beside me in the pool too.

"...why're you here?!"
"oh the guys pushed me in after I swung you in,"

What ensued-- mass cannonballs. Over and over again. I got wetter than wet and my supposedly waterproof eyeliner started running like crazy but it was awesome, I didn't mind at all. I played mermaids with Maxy and Ting and Joe Wei and Kat in the bubbly pool bit for a while; then got tired so Sherman piggybacked me around the pool, and we went around splashing random people.
The guys posed for a lifeguards.united picture, and the girls did a Baywatch babes one-- all hot people we are.

and the rest of the guys were yelling and pool-wrestling all over the place,
and the girls were treading around and smiling for pictures,
and I was laughing with my arms around his neck,
and everyone was happy and golden and pretty

and it seemed like summer.

There must've had been something in the air, that night-- pixie dust, maybe? from Tinkerbell's wing;
because now looking back, everything and everyone seems shaded over in these glorious tones of golden and sepia
and I can see their eyes shining out at me from the messy polaroids,
faces flushed with colour, arms waving, heads thrown back in laughter;

children of the summer--

and maybe I really did feel like a princess,
maybe I was,
maybe we all were;

maybe that night the sounds of the splashing and the laughter drew down the veil between Magic and this world and maybe we were frolicking with fairies and never realized it.

I think that night we were all touched by a little bit of magic.

so hello, sixteen,

and thank you, all of you.

I love you guys.
